SUMMARY

Strengths:  Technical ability, effective client communication, troubleshooting and optimization of chemical processes.

EDUCATION

1986 - BS, Chemical Engineering North Carolina State University, Magna Cum Laude

EXPERIENCE

8/96 - Present:  President and Chemical Engineer – Chambers Process Engineering - Wilmington, NC

Special Projects:

·    Process design engineer working with client to debottleneck existing polyphenylene sulfide facility to increase
nameplate capacity 25% in 1998 and an additional 20% in 1999.  1998 shutdown successfully met production rate
increase. Project was on schedule and within budget ($10MM).

·    Process design work included:  6 months of detailed process study of existing heat and material balances of
operation and working with operation personnel to identify capacity bottlenecks.  Also worked to troubleshoot
distillation recovery system (4 towers in series) which periodically was limited to 40% of internal design rates.

Determined trouble was due to excess fines in feed, pH control problems and internal accumulation of minor
component in feed.

·    Other duties included:  factored cost estimates provided for plantwide upgrades, PFD & P&ID generation, PHA
(process hazard analyses) leadership, process equipment data sheets, specifications, quotation and vendor
selection, process input for all instruments, control logic overview and coordination with DCS programmers,
supervised all piping design needs, provided overview for scheduling and interdiscipline coordination including
during contraction phase.   After construction provided checkout, commissioning,  and start-up assistance.

Highlighted unit operations include:

·  New vacuum batch flash cooling system for reactor slurry
·  Slurry particle classification (sifting) upgrade
·  Liquid hot oil heating system addition
·  Additional cooling tower cell
·  Upgrade to heat exchangers for distillation towers
·  Upgrade to tower internals
·  Various slurry piping and flow control upgrades
·  Vertical decanters (2) installation
·  Filter press installation
·  Additional raw material tankage
·  Tempered water system upgrade
·  Automation of sifting and decanting operation

2-96 - 8/96:  Principal Process Design Engineer – McKim & Creed Engineers - Wilmington, NC

8-92 - 2/96:  Principal Process Design Engineer - Perigon, PA - Charlotte and Wilmington, NC

Special Projects:

Responsibilities included developing Process Scope Packages, PFD’s and P&ID’s, equipment and piping specifications, and cost estimates (factored and detailed) for projects with TIC’s ranging from $50K to $4000K. Also provided project coordination of piping, electrical, instrumentation, programming and civil/structural/architectural disciplines during detail design phase.  Checkout, commissioning and start-up assistance provided upon client request.  Additional frequent process tasks/deliverables included:  Process Optimization Studies, troubleshooting efforts, relief valve sizing calculations, leading HAZOP studies, and ensuing design compliance with OSHA 1910 regulations.

Highlighted unit operations include:

·  Batch polymerization systems
·  Thin file evaporation systems
·  Hot oil heating systems (liquid and vapor)
·  Catalysts addition systems
·  Polymer extrusion and chip cutting optimization
·  Biofilter
·  Unloading, weighing and closed loop dilute phase conveying of dust explosion sensitive NDC (PEN polymer   recursor)
·  Polymer gear pump, diverter valve and die head installation
·  Dense phase conveying of PET pellet system
·  Ammonia recovery system
·  Miscellaneous waste treatment projects
·  Organic vapor fugitive recovery system

6/86 - 8/92: Production / Project Engineer - Pfizer / ADM, Citric Acid Plant - Southport, NC

Special Projects:

Production / Project Engineer at a citric acid plant excelling in process optimization, automation and troubleshooting.  Lead player for numerous expansions and DCS automation projects.  Unit operations included:

·  Ultra filtration (spiral wrapped)
·  Centrifugation, stacked disc and vertical screen
·  Rotary drum, gravity and belt press filtration systems
·  Batch & continuous reactions
·  Multiple stage evaporation and crystallization
·  Pressure leaf filtration
·  Rotary drum drying, mechanical and pneumatic conveying, sifting
